Abstract EN

This study deals with the phonetic change of the glottal stop sound [ʔ] and its effect on connotation.

This study is carried the glossaries of Arab Tongue and the Great Glossary.

The study tries to answer the complex question: what is phonetic change? What are their forms? And what is the effect it makes on glottal stop sound [ʔ].

The importance of this study comes from the fact that it enriches the phonetic study in Arabic language; it also gives a phonetic scientific description for the glottal stop sound [ʔ], sheds lights on the phonetic changes of glottal stop sound [ʔ], and shows the connotative effect it adds to the amount of words in Arabic Language.

The descriptive method which is based on observation and implementation was used in this study.

The study has reached into the following results: the phonetic change generates new connotations with many meanings.

The leading cause in phonetic change results from environmental reasons.

The study recommends carrying further phonetic study in particular phonetic change as well as attention to the phonetic studies for its association with the correct pronunciation of the Holy Quran and Arabic Language.
