Abstract EN

It is known that the economic activity precedes the economic theory, and the method of the index numbers are not an exception where the matter was required hundreds of years in order to accumulate a sufficient experience to form the necessary rules to structure the index numbers to meet the economic needs.

The theoretical part of the study aimed to display a summary of the history of the index numbers appearance and the different stages of their development .

It also showed the different types of the index numbers and their characteristics, and indicated to the different defects of the index numbers and the important problems which encounter the researcher when using the index numbers.

The practical part of the study aimed to analyze the economic content of the index numbers indicators, and using their structure as a means for the analysis according to the factors.

The study has used the a descriptive-analytic approach to review the historical development of the index numbers, and the different stages of their development, as well as the different types of the index numbers and their characteristics.

The study has used the quantitative approach to analyze the economic content of the index numbers indicators, and to analyze the index numbers structure according to the factors by using the Correlation and the autocorrelation techniques .Finally, the study has offered some important findings and recommendations which we hope to be useful for specialists and for those who are interested in this field.
