Abstract EN

In this work, the extraction of iron from the waste metal (iron filings) using different concentrations of hydrochloric acid and different organic solvents as extractants were studied.

It has been adopted, the method of Multiple Batch Extraction as well as increase the volume of organic phase to raise the percentage of extraction and then the best results were applied on waste of stainless steel (containing 74% iron, 18% chromium and about 7% nickel) in order to extract iron from it.

The extraction percentage of iron was 99.9%, and the separation of chromium from nickel was realized through the oxidation of chromium to chromate in an alkali solution, and the nickel was then precipitated using an excess of oxidizing agent.

The purity of separated chromate and nickel were 99.9% and 98.8% respectively.
