Fish samples were taken monthly from Almontar area, by fixed gill net during the period Apr.

2007 – Mar.

2008.

31 fish species were identified and Sparisoma cretense was the most dominant fish species, with a total yield of 20.5kg.

The quantity of fish caught varied with time; the largest was in Mar.

(11.51Kg) and the lowest was in Sep.

2007 (4.05Kg).

The average fishing effort of each boat using fixed gill net reached 0.78±0.21 Kg/h، while the average fish yield was 3.83±1.02 Kg.

Fish diversity index ranged between 1.50 on Jan.

2008 and 2.72 on May 2007.

The minimum evenness coefficient value was on May 2007 (0.72) and the maximum one was on Nov.

2007 (0.93).

The statistical analysis indicate that the quantitative and qualitative fish stock suffers from severe deterioration, which calls for proper integrated and sustainable management of marine living resources
