Abstract EN

The water balance is one of the most important tools for water resources management, especially when defining water policies and planning water projects.

It is used for estimation of exploitation of water reserves in a certain water system and sufficiency of available water resources for different uses.

The water balance computation methods have widely developed and varied, so they became more accurate from one point of view, and able to take local factors in consideration from another point of view.

This research deals with the most important methods in the world used for water balance components estimation and their theoretical basis, application conditions and required data.

Some of those methods were applied to calculate the water balance for Katana area in Damascus basin.

This water balance was used for drawing a conclusion about groundwater formation conditions in the area.
