Abstract EN

This research investigates one of the most important Islamic-Frank (Crusade) relations during a critical period in the history of the struggle specifically before and during the fateful Battle of Hittin as it is represented by the Ayubid Sultan Saladin’s relationship with Tripolis’s Count Raymond III.

Thus, the study uncovers the beginning and origin of the relationship.

It shows the armistices signed between the Muslims and the Franks and their circumstances.

The study discusses the difficult political circumstances of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the division and disagreements which led Count Raymond III to contact the Sultan Saladin and ask for his help.

The paper demonstrates the political and military benefits which Saladin gained for the Muslims.

It provides a detailed discussion of the raid of Saladin's son King Afdal on the Franks' land, with the knowledge and support of Count Raymond III, bringing out the raid's importance, circumstances, conditions, and observing its impact on the Muslim and the Frank sides.

The study reveals the positions of Count Raymond III before and during the Battle of Hittin towards the Muslims and his relations with them, and the views of the Franks about him, so the study treated that problem by highlighting the Arabic and Frank narrations and analyzing and comparing them.

The paper draws on claims made by the Arabs and the Franks.
