Abstract EN

The imperative verbs such as “do it” (= If^al) or “to do it”(=Litaf^al) are considered to be one of the controversial issues in Arabic grammar.

According to al Basra Grammarians, these verbs are indeclinable whereas al Kufa Grammarians considered these verbs as declinable.

This salient difference between the grammarians may be attributed to the difference of their approach in reading the relations between the verbs structure and the Parsing function.

Al Basra Grammarians showed that these verbs are indeclinable because these verbs do not contain one of the prefixes which should be in the constituents of these verbs.

They should contain the governor (= Grammatical Governor).

But Al Kufa Grammarians think that these verbs contain the prefixes and governor in the deep structure.

This research seeks to present a new reading in the structure and in prediction function of the imperative verbs in order to classify these verbs into declinable or indeclinable, and to establish the relation between the predication function in the deep structure and the sign of the end in these verbs
