Abstract EN

This study aimed to explore the reality of safety and security measures in the chemical laboratories in the faculties of Education for Pure Sciences and Science at the University of Basra.

The descriptive analytical method was used in this study.

A questioner composed of 20 paragraph and personal interviews were conducted to those who participated in this study.

The total sample size was (60) lecturers (30) from each department.

The results of this study confirmed that (73.33%) emphasized the lack of safety and security requirements in chemical laboratories.

( 65.00%) of laboratories personal not involve in training in the field of safety and security or first aids.

About (99.66%) had not seen the evacuation, fire extinguish and first aid practices.

About (88.32%) confirmed that there are no warning signs and signals.

The evaluations of more than (75%) for safety and security in laboratories were bad.

About ( 80.00%) did not feel the concern or inspection visit carried out by the higher authorities to make sure that there are safety and safety standards in chemical laboratories.

The main recommendations of this study are to establish a specialized department for the occupational safety and health at the university.

Work on deployment of chemical safety culture.

All laws and regulations must be applied.

Training of the workers to promote awareness and develop the skill they have.

The situation is unsatisfactory and dangerous and appropriate measures must be taken as soon as possible to avoid chronic posing or a disaster might happen.

The results of the questioners , interviews and field viewing is unappealing and alarm must sounding.
