Abstract EN

The study addressed the problem of energy consumption in Algeria and the factors influencing it through explaining the growth of final energy consumption in different sectors, and the analysis of the impact of certain economic variables on the function of the final consumption of energy in Algeria using a Vector Auto Regression (VAR), based on annual data during the period of 1980-2014.

The study found that the demand of energy in Algeria is influenced by many economic variables to varying degrees, which led to the disparity in energy consumption between sectors.

Thus, the growth of the national energy consumption in Algeria is driven by demographic factors at the expense of the industrial sector, which is a proof that the Algerian economy is a consumer economy rather than a productive economy.

Furthermore, subsidies energy prices in Algeria have led to irrational energy consumption by the Algerian individual.

The study recommended the need to rationalize energy consumption, reviewing its pricing system, and increasing the dependence on renewal energy.
