Abstract EN

The purpose of this study is to shed light on the psychological side of the clash of civilizations between the East and the West in the novel of Tayeb Salih entitled ‘‘The Season of Migration to the North’’.

It focuses on the psychological relationship between the Colonizing West (England) and the Colonized Est (Sudan) through the analysis of the hero’s relationship ‘‘Mustapha Said’’ with Englishwomen, and his English wife Jane Morris in particular.

This relationship is a psychological illness based on some sort of sadism and masochism or pleasure in torturing the other or pleasure found in inflicting torture to them either physical or psychological which is most dangerous.

The relationship of ‘‘ Jane Morris’’ sadism toward Mustapha Said stands smartly for the sadistic relationship between the colonizer (England) and the colonized (Sudan), where the first delights in torturing the other and extends it beyond independence.

In most cases, the colonizer and colonized relationship in maintained – even after the latter’s independence – a sick relationship based on subordination and dependence in every single aspect of contempt and disdain rather than being a relationship of equality and complementarity, where there is no superiority and inferiority or strong and weak or dominant and dominated.
