Abstract EN

This formalist study explores the structure of Arabic poetry titles published in El Chihab Magazine.

In addition to their literary capacity to bear on and orient meaning, poems’ titles play a strategic role of the printed text in the Algerian cultural context.

The study reveals that the titles of the poetic texts reflect adequately the Algerian context in the time of their publication and that their compositional semantic structure varies between superficiality and directedness.

However, other titles tend to exploit individual and sentential poetic elements in a deflection from directedness to abstractness through metaphorical portrayal.
