Abstract EN

The desert agriculture in Algeria knew a great development in recent years as a result of the state interest in and support of food security.

The natural resources of Algerian Sahara suggest the possibility of better development in agriculture if the state provides the means and possibilities and decreases the obstacles in order to improve desert farming in national production to a level that would allow the achievement of food self-sufficiency.

However, the increase of agricultural production in the Sahara is not enough to achieve this goal, unless it is supported by an efficient agricultural marketing which ensures a good distribution of agricultural products to all the national markets, especially in the North.

Hence, we can say that the improvement of the desert agriculture based on agricultural marketing may contribute to the reduction of the import of some agricultural products and consequently allow the achievement of food security.

This study aims to shed light on the reality of agricultural production in the Algerian Sahara and the various barriers to its development, with reference to the elements that must be provided and adapted to ensure access to abundant production.

It also aims to highlight the role of agricultural marketing in developing desert farming and achieve good coverage of national markets, which may contribute to national food security with particular focus on the various problems that hinder the marketing of agricultural products.
