All praise is due to Allah and peace and may blessing be upon His last Prophet, his family, and his companions.

Many of the institutions of higher education in the Arab World suffer from a large financial deficit in their budgets as a result of the lack of permanent funding sources for these institutions.

As a result, this deficit has affected the scope and quality of the services provided by these institutions.

In order to face financial problems, the majority of the institutions of higher education depended on government support, external borrowing, or raising the prices of a variety of services provided for students.

Such solutions proved to have negative impact on the field of higher education in the Arab World.

This study investigates the role of endowments in solving the financial problems of the institutions of higher education in the Arab world by referring to the experience of King Saud University in this field.

The study was divided into three sections as follows: - Section I: General introduction to endowments.

Section II: The role of research endowment in supporting educational institutions.

Section III: King Saud University's experience in the establishment of research endowments.
