Abstract EN

This paper investigates the phenomenon of rumor and its stages from the perspective of social influence.

It specifically focuses on trying to understand the mechanisms of its spread in social networks.

It also includes some intellectual efforts on the need to adopt critical thinking and how it can be invested in reducing rumors in these spaces.

Building a social and technological paradigm in which critical thinking is based on investing the collective capacity of the public in revealing inaccurate information is critically fundamental.

Individuals can benefit from the critical skills of others in identifying rumors, and thus the system disrupts their spread.

The paper showed that human nature tends to propagate and promote rumors, especially when they live in uncertain situations.

This situation requires the education of individuals to think critically, and the design of technological and social systems to support this thinking in different social groups.

It is not necessary in these systems to possess an individual critical thinking at all and at any time, but it is based on the benefit of individuals of competencies and skills of each other, as they share these skills in overcoming rumors and social problems in general.

It has been shown that such mechanisms can contribute to reducing the spread of rumor in cyberspace, including social networks.
