Abstract EN

This paper aims at determining the complex notion of the body, a subject that still plays a considerable role in different crises and conflicts that man goes through.

The different manifestations of the body, such as being sick, deformed, different,etc., generated, not only new symbolic and real representations and significant dimensions, but also a conceptual field in the light of which we can discern different relationships with regard to values, power, and authority.

In view of the complexity and seriousness of the subject, it is mandatory that people beware of being trapped in conflicts and negative judgments based on racial, cultural, religious or linguistic considerations.

To guard ourselves against this undesirable sitiuation we must clarify the question of man -as body and soulby a adopting a perspectve that enables us to overcome the onesidednes of doctrinal views, regardless of whether such views are relogious, ideological, political or artistic.
