Abstract EN

We will try in this paper to state the different theories that approached the phenomenon of poverty by referring to the contribution of thinkers of different schools; from the classical school to the concepts of human development and through the marxist ideology and the welfare state whose philosophy concerning variants that cause poverty and methods used to repair it in terms of economic and social conditions of each period, has changed.

The concept of poverty in the economic ideology has known several stages, starting from Adam Smith to Sen, that shifted it from the narrow concept to the broad one.

The definition of poverty as the lack of opportunities and choices is the most appropriate.

In addition to the importance of previous contributions, which have led to the evolution of this concept, and transferred it to the economic field.
