Abstract EN

This study deals with Imam Maslamah ibn Al Qasem al Qurtbi and his efforts in biographical evaluation (praise and criticism of narrators).

The paper follows an inductive approach and undertakes a comprehensive survey of Imam Maslamah’s sayings and opinions in the Prophet’s biography books especially those that deal with narrators’ biographies and their dates.

It follows up on his wordings in relation to his judgments on narrators in an attempt to classify these wordings and opinions into two main categories: praise and criticism.

Under these two categories are subcategories that are closely related.

Also this will show how Immam Masalamh uses these words in his judgments on narrators in terms of praise and criticism.

The study concludes with a comparison of Imam Masalamh’s critical judgments with other scholars in the field.
