In recent years, there has been a huge demand for higher education in the Arab world, which necessitated the establishment of many public and private universities.
In the light of the competition between the higher education institutions, there arose the need for ensuring quality outcomes, including qualified graduates.
As a result, there was a strong need for the creation of academic accreditation commissions in the Arab world to satisfy the requirements of society for the human resources that could undertake scientific research and carry out sustained development plans.
The study aims to shed light on the role played by the academic accreditation commissions in the Arab world to regulate effectively the processes and operations of higher education in these countries in order to achieve the desired goals.
Therefore, the study will investigate the concept, criteria, and objectives of academic accreditation from the point of view of comprehensive quality in higher education institutions.
To this end, the study will raise a number of relevant questions pertaining to the effectiveness of academic accreditation and its contribution to the improvement of the quality and performance of tertiary institutions.
The researcher has used the analytical (documentary) method, which is suited to the description of the phenomenon under investigation in order to draw the appropriate results.
The following are among the most important results reached from the study: - Academic accreditation is a necessity for ensuring the quality of higher education and the continuous improvement of educational process.
- Academic accreditation reinforces the mutual trust between the state and society with regard to academic programs and the accompanying services and activities provided by higher education institutions.
- The essence of academic accreditation is the evaluation of the quality of education and the institutional performance of universities.
The study's recommendations include the following: 1.
An increased attention to the projects and programs of comprehensive quality in all higher education institutions.
2.
Spreading the culture and practice of accountability for individuals and groups involved in the institution's operations.
