Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder induced by gluten in genetically susceptible individuals.
Patients may present with typical symptoms of enteropathy with diarrhoea and failure to thrive, however the diagnosis is go difficult and often delayed because the clinical variability is very large, ranging from digestive clinical presentation “classic” to “atypical” symptoms, often extra-intestinal, that are sometimes attributed to a concomitant disease or a complication.
serologic tests have a great value in screening and diagnosing celiac disease.
Histological villous atrophy in duodenum confirm the disease.
Treatment relies on eviction of gluten.
Gluten free diet allows prevention of malignant complications and osteopenia

La maladie coeliaque est une maladie auto-immune induite par le gluten chez des sujets génétiquement prédisposés.
Le diagnostic reste difficile et souvent tardif devant la grande variabilité clinique, allant d’une présentation clinique digestive « classique » à des symptômes « atypiques » souvent extra-intestinaux qui sont parfois en rapport avec une pathologie associée ou une complication.
La sérologie de la maladie coeliaque constitue un outil de dépistage et de diagnostic de grande valeur.
Le diagnostic positif repose sur la présence d’anticorps sériques spécifiques et l’atrophie villositaire du duodénum.
Le traitement repose sur l’éviction à vie du gluten.
Il permet de prévenir les complications néoplasiques et l’ostéopénie.
