Abstract EN

This study aimed to identify the role of commercial banks in the financing of small and medium enterprises in Jordan, in addition to knowledge the challenges facing commercial banks in financing small and medium-sized enterprises.

The study depends on descriptive and analytical approach method through designing a questionnaire and distributed to a sample study, which consisted of (200) individuals who work in administrative, accounting and credit departments, and customer service in four commercial banks represented in: Arab Bank, the Housing Bank for Trade and Finance, the Cairo Amman Bank and Jordan Al- Ahli Bank.

The study has been applied to the branches of these banks in: The Al-Mafraq governorate, Irbid governorate, and Karak governorate, and by (50) questionnaire of each bank.

A total of (196) questionnaires were retrieved and exclude (3) questionnaires are not valid for the purposes of statistical analysis, so that the number of the questionnaires which valid for the purposes of statistical analysis were (193) questionnaires formed (96.5%) of overall distributed questionnaires; the questionnaires have been analyzed using SPSS statistical software.

The results indicated that there is a role for commercial banks in the financing of small and medium enterprises in Jordan, besides having range of challenges faced by those banks in the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The study recommended that the Jordanian commercial banks must interest in the investment strategy of the institution through make balance between risk and expected return.
