Abstract EN

The public social expenditure in Yemen has remarkably wit-nessed an increasing growth over the past two decades, especially expenditure on education, health and social care.

However, the effi-ciency and effectiveness of social expenditure and its contribution to the economic growth were not deeply investigated and analyzed de-spite the increasing demands and societal pressures to increase the expenditure level on the aspects of social nature under budget con-straint and limited public resources.

This study aimed to analyze the developments of social expenditure and the main determinants.

The study also aimed to analyze the nature of the relationship between social expenditure and economic growth in Yemen by using co-integration method and the error correction model to reach to the results that may assist fiscal policy-makers determine priorities for social expenditure and its levels.

The results may also help to in-crease the contribution of social expenditure and its components in stimulating economic growth
