Abstract EN

This study aims to identify the impact of energy drinks Code Red (Group B), Power Horse (Group C) and Red Bull (Group D) on the ovaries, reproductive hormones in female of Rats breed of Albino Rats Swiss Wister after 45-day period to 90 days.

Ovarian weights showed a significant decrease (p = 0.001) in the ovary weights of group D, compared with the control group after 90 days.

Hormones values showed differences between groups.

There was a significant increase (p = 0.001) in the level of Progesterone of group D compared with the other groups, and a significant increase (p = 0.001) in the level of Estradiol of groups B and C, compared with the control group, after 45 days of treatment.

While after 90 days of treatment there was a significant increase (p = 0.001) in the level of Progesterone of groups B, C and D, compared with the control group, and a significant increase (p = 0.001) in the level of Estradiol of group D compared with the control group.

Light microscopic examination of the tissues in the ovarian sections of groups B, C and D, showed congestion of the ovarian blood vessels and degeneration of the graffian follicles and complete absence of ova from ovarian follicles, in other cases.

This may be attributed to the effect of caffeine present in energy drinks.

Our findings revealed that some follicles were destructed and replaced by fibrous connective tissue with perivascular fibrosis.
