Abstract EN
To investigate the percentage rates of anti-Cytomegalovirus IgG and IgM seropositivity and their relations to the abortion rates, 185 women were tested in Sulaimani city (Iraq) using ELISA technique.
The studied cases were grouped into pregnant women with abortion history (35 cases), without abortion history (120 cases) and control group (30 cases).
The majority of tested women showed positive results for anti-CMV IgG (90.2%), whereas anti-CMV-IgM seropositivity was lower (9.18%).
Only (7.02 %) of the tested women were negative for both anti-CMV IgG and IgM.
Significant effects of ant-CMV IgM seropositivity were seen on the abortion rates (p = 0.048), while anti-CMV IgG seropositivity showed no significant effects (p = 0.512).
It was found that the residency, previous blood transfusion and socioeconomic status have no significant effects on the anti-CMV IgG and IgM seropositivity (p>0.05).
Anti-CMV IgG and IgM seropositivity showed significant effects on total white blood cell counts (p = 0.000).
It was concluded that there were significant differences between platelet counts from both anti-CMV IgG and IgM seropositive pregnant women with and without abortion history and controls (p = 0.0206 and 0.0308).
