English Abstract

Optical injection locking can be used as a path to minimize cost, complexity, and size of fiber-optic communications.

A rate equations of semiconductor laser based model is usually used to describe the interaction between photons and carriers inside a laser cavity.

When an additional light source is injected into the cavity, the system preserves the general form of the original equations.

Optical injection locking for semiconductor lasers provides beneficial applications not achievable through the free-running lasers and offers preferable performance over free-running lasers.

In this thesis, investigation of optical injection locking for semiconductor lasers are presented and analyzed in various aspects.

Locking range and stability of semiconductor lasers under optical injection locking are simulated and analyzed.

The effects of both the linewidth enhancement factor and coupling rate on the rate equations of laser under injection locking are investigated and analyzed.

The small signal frequency response of injection-locked lasers is analyzed.

Moreover, frequency response versus different wavelength detuning at fixed injection ratio is presented and discussed, and optical spectra is simulated and analyzed at four detuning conditions.

Finally, frequency response versus different injection ratios, for fixed detuning wavelength, is introduced and analyzed.

It's found that there are many benefits of optical injection locking from than the free running of semiconductor laser such as enhancement the frequency response, large modulation bandwidth, high data rate, low signal distortion, and low link loss.
