Abstract EN

This article deals with the definition of medical terms in general Arabic dictionaries, since this definition raises a number of problems related to its nature, its relevance to the concept of the defined term, and its understanding by dictionary user.

The study focuses on a sample of medical terms from the following contemporary Arabic dictionaries : «Al Wassit», «Al Moundjid of contemporary Arabic language» and «contemporary Arabic language dictionary» of Ahmed Moukhtar Omar and «Al Ghani» of Abdelghani Abou El Azm.

Also, the paper starts with a theoretical introduction dealing with terminological definition as well as different types of definition as classified by modern terminologists, and their areas of use.
