Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to determine the requirements for achieving the general objectives of distance education in Saudi universities from the perspectives of faculty members after a reference framework has been established for the philosophy of distance education in Saudi universities.

It also aimed to set general objectives of distance education, and to expose the status quo of distance education implementation in Saudi universities.

The study adopted the documentary and descriptive survey approach.

The following are some of the most important results of the study : The sample population of the study considerably agreed on the general objectives of distance learning that can be achieved in Saudi universities.

It also found that the study sample has highly concentrated on a number of features of the actual distance education programs.

Moreover, the study revealed the agreement of the study population largely on the existence of requirements to achieve the overall objectives of distance education in Saudi universities.

The study concluded that the objectives of distance learning could be achieved once Saudi universities adopt a clear philosophy therefore, where interactive electronic courses can be designed and implemented.

The outputs of distance learning is expected to meet the labor market needs, and the only basic reference of this type of education should be established.

The research is concluded with several recommendations in the light of the study results.
