Abstract EN

The study aimed to verify the effectiveness of the group counseling program to reduce the psychological stress of the mothers of children with cancer at the National center for radiotherapy and nuclear medicine (Alamal Tower) in Khartoum state.

It also aimed to identify differences in demographic variables (the gender, Child cancer type, the duration of knowledge of the disease).

To investigate this goal researcher followed the experimental method, the researcher used psychological stress scale designed by the research.and counseling program design researcher.The sample was selected deliberately, consisted of (16) subjects of the mothers of children with cancer.

Treatment of data statistically was by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS).

The study found the following results : There was differences between the pre and post degrees of psychological stress among mothersr in favor of the post test in all items except bearing burdens where it did not prove the existence of differences.

There was no significan differences in the test scores of psychological stress among mothers according to the gender variable in all items except the bearing burdens in favor of females.

There was no significant differences in the test scores of psychological stress among mothers according to type of cancer, There was no differences in the test scores of psychological stress among mothers according to the variable of duration of disease knowledge in all items except the item of anxiety in favor of less than a month.

In the lights of these results the researcher developed a number of recommendations including : Attention is to be payed to the mothers of children with cancer and their rehabilitation by a numbe of specialized counseling programs
