The study examined the role that the National identification number (NIN) plays in reducing the effort and storage capacity needed to handle the massive amounts of data about a country’s citizenry.

Large databases or massive data characterize the modern era we live in, and the main challenges faced include the storage, classification and analysis of such data to benefit from the data the most.

The paper found that the importance of the NIN is increasingly observed in areas of security and economics among other aspects.

The paper highlights some of the NIN models adopted in some selected countries in an effort to learn from their experience, called for a unified international identification number and provided some examples on this, and discussed the expected challenges and benefits from using a NIN
