Abstract EN

The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral program on improving self-esteem and relieving depression among patients of depression.

To achieve the above objective the researcher used quasi- experimental design.

A sample of 44 out-patients was purposively selected from Khartoum State Psychiatric Units.

Tools of data collection consist of Hudson Self-esteem Scale, Beck depression Scale, and cognitive behavioral therapy program for improving self-esteem and relieving depression among patients with depression free of psychotic symptoms.

The data were analyzed by applying the statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), applying the following tests: T-test, Person Correlation Coefficient, and the Spearman Correlation Coefficient.

The most important results of the study are as follows: There is a significant difference in favor of post application on self-esteem among out patients of depression - probability value is .001; there is a significant difference in favor of post application in reliving depression - P.

value .001; there is significant positive correlation between effectiveness of the proposed therapeutic program in improving self-esteem and relieving depression free of psychotic symptoms (group of cognitive behavioral therapy with P.

value .002, and group of psychotropic medication with P.

The most important recommendation of the study is application of cognitive behavioral therapy program in all centers, units, and hospitals operating on the field of mental health.
