Abstract EN

The question of political and religious despotism is examined here through examining the most important manifestations of the congruent critique of two prominent modern Arab thinkers al-Kawakibi and Abdel-Raziq.

The aim of this study is to reveal their shared critical features in a number of aspects despite the differences between them, since the goal of the critique of despotism, whether political or religious, is the critique of politics from inside using its own tools.

The two Arab thinkers ceaselessly attempted to sow the seeds of enlightened thinking with the aim of breaking the essentialist and interest-based links between the political and religious domains in the context of re-establishing the relationship between them according to a modern, and rational understanding.
