Abstract EN

Improving the economy of (MED-TVC) is performed through increasing productivity and lowering specific power consumption by utilizing waste heat for seawater feed preheat.

A steady state mathematical model for the MED-TVC system is solved using a computer program to evaluate the MED-TVC performance.

The model validity is examined by data collected from two MED-TVC plants which showed good agreement.

In addition to, a formula for predicting the entrainment ratio of steam jet ejector is obtained.

The performance curves of the fixed and the variable feed are also obtained.

Results show that at a feed temperature of 32oC, the variable feed increases the productivity by about 3% and decreases the specific heat consumption by 2.6% in comparison with the fixed feed type.

These enhancements, in turn, shall improve the unit economy.

Meanwhile, in the feed preheating, these enhancements are reduced by increasing the feed temperature.

Also, the feed preheating decreases the variable feed itself by about 14%, compared with the case of the fixed feed.

The results depict the preference of parallel cross feed method over the parallel feed method.

These results show that the variable parallel cross feed increases the productivity and GOR by about 25% and 24% respectively compared to the parallel fixed feed, and decreases the specific heat consumption and the specific total area by 19% and 11% respectively
