Abstract EN

F oreign direct investment has become a requirement sought by developing countries, especially Algeria in its efforts to achieve development.

This is because of the essential role played by this type of investment, and related companies on a global scale in light of current economic transformations.

The attractiveness of foreign companies and their investments is highly connected to the country’s investment climate effectiveness.

This justifies the significant variation among countries, where international companies are highly sensitive economical, legal, regulatory, and social investment climate variables.

So it is wrong to limit the efforts of improving the investment climate only to some and neglecting the others.

These should be covered within the context of macroeconomic policy that takes into account both the development requirements of host countries, and foreign investing companies.This study tried to present the role of macroeconomic variables in attracting the foreign direct investment to Algeria during the period (1995-2015).

This has been done through testing the effect of number of variables: inflation, exchange rate, growth and economic openness on foreign direct investment by building a logarithmic measuring model.

The model showed that all variables are statistically significant and agree the logic of economic theory on this type of investment.

Still, exchange remains the most effective variables .
