Abstract EN

The art of ceramic was very popular in central Maghreb.

In fact, it used to constitute an important part of the region’s personality.

Today, this art is still largely unknown, as there are very few works that tried to study it and revive it.

But even among these very few works, it was lately discovered that excavations were performed in a non-scientific way, without any respect of the principles of stratigraphy.

The present study deals with a particular type of ceramic products called the ceramic lamps of oil.

Because Ceramic lamps of oil have undergone a continuous evolution through time, it can actually be used to perform significant historiographical studies.

In the present study, we will perform a comparative analysis between the findings about ceramic lamps of oil in central Maghreb region and in many other archeological sites from the Islamic world.

This comparison will allow us to restore the chronological order that was damaged by the previous studies.

We will also show that central Maghreb has never been isolated from the artistic world in the region.
