Abstract EN

In this article, we discuss the personality of Sheikh Abdelhalim Ben Smâïa and his reformist activity in Algeria at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

This is the sign that spent his life between education in the school and the mosque, about four decades in the call to science and knowledge despite the French pressures.

The role of Sheikh Abdelhalim Ben Smâïa was also demonstrated in the leadership of the current rejection of compulsory recruitment and stand The Sheikh is one of the early reformers where he endeavored to link the bridges of scientific and cultural communication with the Islamic University and its poles.

Sheikh Ben Smâïa left us some writings, although few because of his full focus on competition in education.

He wrote in magazines and newspapers Algerian and Arab political, social and moral issues.
