Abstract EN

This study discusses water security in the Arab world and the internal and external threats to that security in the Arab region.

The study concludes that the issue of water in the Arab world is not only a problem of fresh water shortage, but that there are other dimensions and problems arising from the Arab region especially the increase of the population, the level of urbanization, intense competition for water between different sectors of use, waste, mismanagement and planning, and water pollution.

Other problems come from outside the Arab region, notably the Israeli entity which controls groundwater in the occupied territories, in addition to the rivers of neighboring countries.

In addition, Ethiopia aims to implement water projects that include the construction of many dams on the Nile, which leads to reducing Egypt's share of water.

The construction of the Turkish dams has also helped to reduce the share of water in Syria and Iraq.

This will represent a danger for both countries.

The study arrived to proposals and recommendations which aim to develop measures to preserve this vital resource of the extravagance and the waste of water in the Arab countries.
