Abstract EN
Introduction : Several diseases have been described in association with pseudoexfoliative syndrome (PES).
The aim of our study is to determine the relationship between the PES and general diseases.
Methods : Study single-center, retrospective, comparing two groups of 97 patients each, the first with PES and the second control group without SPE.
The general histories of patients were compared.
Student's statistical test was used.
Results : The mean age was 74.2 years in the group with PES versus 71.6 years in the control group.
The prevalence of diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension and intellectual vascular accidents was higher in the group with PES with regard to the control group with a statistically significant difference (p <0.01).
Conclusion : patient with an eye-exfoliative syndrome have an increased cardiovascular risk compared to the general population.
This may help cardiologists to detect symptoms early and to opt for the appropriate prevention strategies.
