Abstract EN
The present study attempts to conduct an analysis of cohesion in part of Charles Dickens’s Hard Times (1854) in terms of Hallidy and Hasan‘s model.
Accordingly, it endeavours to scrutinise the novelist’s method of using this device to accomplish his work and fabricates its successful discourse.
Hopefully, this will be of some significance to studies related to the structure of the novel which is said to be a unique one.
This is achieved by analysing and categorizing the five devices proposed and measuring their role to some aspects of the novel including characters, themes, and imageries.
By doing so, it is signified that Dickens skilfully employees these cohesive devices to build up the texture and serve his novel.
