Abstract EN

Intercession during the first Mamluk era represented a common social system which influenced many political, religious and socio- economic events.

It was one of the main pillars upon which internal and external relationships depended during the time.

This study discusses the issue of intercession through analyzing documented cases of intercession as a prelude to exploring the political, religious and socio-economic roles it played in the first Mamluk State.

The study is divided in to four chapters a long with an introduction and a conclusion.

The first chapter deals with the concept of intercession, the position of Islamic Jurisprudence towards it and the general environment in which it was practiced.

While the second chapter deals with the political and military aspects of intercession and their consequences.

Religious aspects of the issue and their results are the focus of the third chapter while the fourth and last chapter studies the socio-economic aspects of intercession and their consequences.

The study concludes that intercession played an important role in the shaping of events in the first Mamluk state and that it was a real pillar of its policies as well as being a fundamental factor in the internal relationships between social classes during that period.
