Abstract EN

This paper is intended to analytically investigate two Makki Short Suras, namely: Al-Inshirah (The Opening Up) and Ad-Duha (Early Hours of Morning) in order to shed light on the aesthetic, religious, and intellectual content.

Since these two Makki Suras represent the starting point of Qurannic Discourse - which at that early stage required a very peculiar type of rhetorical discourse to influence its audience- this research proposes that these two suras are characterized by a distinctive aesthetic structure that distinguishes them from other Makki Suras.

Consequently, the paper concludes that these two Suras, like many other Short Suras, are based on duality of structure i.e.

being short Suras and having short verses to suggest solemnity of Qurannic Discourse and at the same time to show that their Qurannic essence does not need elaboration or prolongation.

Still, it is obvious that the assonance (harmony) which characterizes the various vocabularies and verses employed in these suras is not only meant to create musical harmony, but they also have to do with the general structure of these suras including their words, verses and aims they seek to fulfill.

Hence, they are full with rhetorical perceptible visualized simple images that echo the Arabian setting and Arabic audience at the revelation time.

Furthermore, the rhetorical inimitability of the Holy Quran has the same effective presence which it has in Long Suras.

Nevertheless, it has a clearer presence in Short Suras for the aforementioned reasons.

As for those who challenge the fact that the Holy Glorious Quran does have a rhetorical content, it seems they are not familiar with Arabic language principles and fundamentals of discourse on one hand.

On the other hand, they, like many Arab linguists who discarded their linguistic environment and employed different religious, logical or ethical rules to deal with the linguistic, grammatical, critical and rhetorical dilemmas that faced them, might have applied the wrong scales or rules to the rhetorical issue .
