Abstract EN

This study aimed at clarifying Meryl's theory including its elements, the procedures of using it and the extent to which it is applied by teachers.

Furthermore, this study highlights a number of previous studies which investigated Meryl's theory and which pinpointed its significant role in the teaching learning process, particularly because it is an integral and an indispensible part at the stage of teaching the lower basic grades (1-4).

Those studies confirmed the importance of recognizing the learners' concepts and the urgent necessity to apply them on the part of the teacher.

This, in turn, necessitates the emphasis on the aspects of the teaching process (the teacher, the learner and the curriculum) as well as the need of clarifying their significance.
