In order to meet the demands of the world's evolution, the French textbook becomes a basic tool and a pedagogical support for the pupil and the teacher very often undergoes changed and modifications.

Today, programs need to focus on the learner to provide him with a communicative skill that can open his horizon to other peoples and other cultures.

If the textbook is the means of transmitting a set of knowledge and values it must also respond to a specific societal project.

That is why we set ourselves the task of addressing the following questions: - Is the content of the manual, in particular that of French at the secondary level in Algeria, in line with major changes throughout the world? - Is there an adequacy between the proposed text and openness to the world? - Does the textbook answer the ambitions formulated by the institution? - Does the text of the manual catch the attention of the pupil and encourage him to learn the foreign language through which it is transmitted, in this case, French? These are questions that we will try to answer.

To do this, we will opt for an analysis of the content of the current French textbook of the first year secondary school (1st AS lettres).

We will limit ourselves to the study of the "quality" of the texts proposed to the reading, the language and the culture conveyed by these writings.
