Abstract EN

The syntactic deviation surprises the receiver when he realizes that the deviation creates new images and expressions from the language itself.

The language of proverbs occupies an important position in linguistic studies since it tackles several linguistic issues.

This paper studies three of the syntactic deviation in the language of proverbs; namely, deviation in the sentence structure, deviation in the position of sentence constituents, and deviation in correlation.

This paper studies the aims of these deviations as a syntactic phenomenon exemplified in several linguistic forms based on the deviation of the syntactic structure from the original structure.

The proverbs that are studied in this paper are chosen from Majma’a Al-Athal by Al-Maydani.

These proverbs are studied as examples of the syntactic deviation, so the approach of this study is descriptive, analytical and applied.

This study concludes that the syntactic deviation exists in the language of proverbs on a large scale.

It also concludes that these deviations have several uses like expanding, generalizing, ambiguity, facilitating, being indirect, clarity … etc.
