The main subject of this book is the employment of Dhimmis in the Islamic government.

The author was a high official in the Mamluk administration which gives the text additional insight.

The text approach to the subject ; therefore, differs from the usual approach of other historical texts that concentrate on political issues.

This is also the case for the historical events mentioned in the text.
