The African states considered as the most oriented towards integration and monetary union in the world.

Many of these countries have been able to establish a monetary union or joined the existing ones.

Despite the recorded experiences on the continent, the results obtained are still below the level, due to the fact that the benefits of a united currency passed through the conditions of economic similarity and institutional coordination.

Beside this benefits generate costs.

The two researchers examined to what extend the standards of the ideal currency area are applicable to the available African currency unions.
