Abstract EN
Study sheds light on prisoners' right to privacy in terms of freedom of correspondences, visits, search of their cells etc.
Prisoners have a very limited right although Article No 45 of Egyptian Constitution guarantees people the right to privacy and UAE Prison Implementing Regulation No 86 provides for the freedom of postal, telegraphic and telephone communication for all prisoners without exception.
Such laws are obviously established for ordinary individuals; however prisoners also enjoy such rights.
Prisoners can be deprived of correspondence as a punishment in case of violating prison laws and regulations.
Prisoners outgoing and incoming letters can also be opened, except their correspondences with their lawyers or with judicial authorities.
Visits are also subject to number limitation and also lack privacy as applicable in UAE and Egypt.
