Abstract EN

The pharmaceutical industry in Algeria is considered as one of the most important economic sectors.

Considering its impact on citizens’ health, and regarding the domestic production failure in meeting the national market needs in this segment, it was necessary to strengthen it through attracting foreign direct investment which can take advantage from national market characteristics.

Nevertheless, it was compulsory to get rid of the obstacles that prevent the attraction of these investments.

In this framework, Algeria has amended new laws offering foreign investors attractive motivations, and cancelling all the obstructions they could encounter.

Especially since Algeria suffers from the worsening of its financial crisis in light of oil prices drop because of the fallout from 2008 global financial crisis.

The latter has affected the developmental conditions as well as foreign investment financing all over the world.

This led to a shift in direct foreign investment flows; however, Algeria was one of the countries least affected because of the lack of openness to the outside world in the economic and financial fields.
