Abstract EN

The study was carried out to investigate the influence of spraying geranium with dry yeast extract and coconut liquid on growth parameters, leaf mineral content and biochemical constituents of geranium at a private nursery in Karbala province during the period from 15/11/2012 to 15/5/2013,Four concentrations of dried yeast extract i.e.

0,2, 4, 6 g.Liter-1, and three concentrations of coconut liquid i.e.

0%,10%, 20% ml.Liter-1 were used.

The results showed that spraying geranium with dry yeast extract at concentration 6g.L-1 or with coconut liquid at concentration 20% significantly increased total number of leaves, nodes and inflorescences in plant, floret diameters, total chlorophyll content and anthocyanin in petals, total soluble carbohydrates in leaves and flowers, leaf nitrogen and phosphorus in leaves, and oil percentage.

Concerning the interaction between factors the results show that spraying with dry yeast extract at concentration of 6g.Liter-1 and spraying coconut liquid at concentration of 20% gave the highest number of total leaves, nodes and inflorescences in plant, floret diameter, total chlorophyll content in leaves and anthocyanin in petals, total soluble carbohydrates in leaves and flowers, percentage of nitrogen and phosphorus in leaves, and the percentage of essential oil compared with the least values in control treatment
