Abstract EN

The plant tissue culture technique was for callus induction and regeneration from two local cultivars of Garlic (Al-keswani and Al-yabrudi),.

Root tips and bases of leaves (5-10 mm) were used as explants that cultured on ) (MS) media supplemented with different hormonal treatments.

Results showed that, the treatment (2 mg/l 2,4 D + 1 mg/l BA) was the best for frequencies of callus induction (89.2% ) to Alkeswani, (84.23%) to Al-yabrudi.

Also, the best treatment for regeneration was R6 (2 mg/l BA+ 0.5 mg/l NAA), and the average number of shoot/callus was 9.8 in Al-keswani cultivar compared to7.9 in Alyabrudi.

Moreover, the average length of shoots reached 6 cm to Al-keswani, 4.8 to Al-yabrudi.

The local cultivar Al-keswani recorded the best results in all studied indicators
