Abstract EN

Twenty adult Awassi rams ( 2-4 year aged ) were used in study to evaluate the effect of grazing (GR) and shearing (SH) in body weight (BW) and semen characters, the rams were randomly assigned to 4 groups (5 rams/ group) treated for 3 months as following : 1st group : rams were reared on standard ration with 6 hrs grazing daily and shearing , 2nd group : rams were treated as 1st group without shearing , 3rd group : rams were reared on standard ration with shearing and without grazing, 4th group : rams were reared on standard ration without grazing and shearing.

Semen samples were collected monthly for determination of semen characters.

Results show a significant increase (P ≤ 0.05 ) in BW of grazing rams group at 3rd month of treatment , a significant interaction increased in BW in GR+SH treatment at 2nd and 3rd month of treatment.

Semen traits significantly (P ≤ 0.05) improved as Ejaculate volume (EV),Texture (TE), Mass motility (MM) , Individual motility % (IM), Live sperm % ( LS), Abnormal sperm % (AS) and Sperm concentration (SC) at 3rd month of treatment, also a significant interaction recorded in (GR+SH) treatment of BW, EV, MM, IM%, LS%, at 2nd and 3rd month of treatment.

In general results showed that GR and interaction between GR and SH improved significantly BW and semen traits in Awassi rams
