Abstract EN

The theoretical relationship between corruption and foreign direct investment (FDI) has been debated extensively in the literature in recent years.

Yet the evidence on the impact of corruption on FDI remains ambiguous.

The objective of this study is to measure the impact of corruption on FDI in the Egyptian economy in the short and long-run over the period (1995-2016), by using corruption perceptions index (CPI), published by transparency international (TI).

Using The Bounds Testing Approach to Cointegration or Auto-regressive Distributed Lag model (ARDL), the results indicate that corruption has a negative and significant effect on FDI in both the short-run and long-run.

This is consistent with the “Grabbing Hand” hypothesis of corruption.

Therefore, controlling corruption may attract more FDI inflows to the Egyptian economy
